Workshops
Full day workshops
Iya is available for full day workshops to teach traditional Malinké djembe Dundunbah, Sangban and Kenkené rhythms. This is what people have said about full day workshops:
“A very encouraging and enabling teacher, creating a lovely warm atmosphere with the group. I look forward to more.”
School workshops
Iya is available for school workshops, which include information on the wider cultural aspects of Malinké life. These workshops provide a first-hand insight into a fascinating African culture and give students a rare opportunity to ask questions and learn about a much under-publicised culture.
Weekly classes
Iya provides a weekly drumming class in Hebden Bridge for intermediate djembe students on Monday nights. This is organised through Rhythmbridge Foundation, and further details can be obtained through the Rhythmbridge Foundation web site.
If you are interested in organising a new weekly class in the North West, please contact us.

Private Classes
Iya can be booked for one-to-one drum classes/lessons, or closed small group work sessions to teach soloing technique and improve understanding of rhythm composition.

Performances
Iya has performed with a number of talented African artists since arriving in the UK this year, at events such as Drum Camp, WOMAD, Mela, Tribe of Doris, Rhythm and Grooves Festival, and African Drum Village.
After arriving in Hebden Bridge, Iya has become a much-valued member of Pobbol-y-cwm. We are a seven-piece group playing mostly traditional Malinké rhythms. We can be booked for a variety of events from weddings to festivals.
